History of MYPN
The Mildura Young Professionals Network (MYPN) was launched on the 20th of March in 2006 as The Young Professionals Network (YPN).
The group was initially established to provide a social framework for all aspiring young business leaders, the aim was to allow like-minded people throughout the district the chance to share common issues and challenges through social events and professional development opportunities.
The launch was held in the Theatre Club at the Mildura Brewery where the guest speaker was a young lawyer from the Bendigo Young Professionals Network who presented to over 120 people. Previous to the launch there had been a working party formed to coordinate the development of the group. The two responsible parties for the formation were the Mildura Chamber of Commerce (MCC) and the Sunraysia Area Consultative Committee (SACC). Greg Leslie from MCC worked with SACC’s project officer Peta Cooper to coordinate The YPN’s development after it was deemed that there was a need for it in the region.
The MCC didn’t have surplus funds to resource its involvement, just a commitment to the ideals of the project, one member of the MCC committee was Jenny Garonne who was then manager of the Vic Governments’ Department of Industry, Innovation and Regional Development (DIIRD). Between the SACC, MCC and DIIRD physical and financial resources were secured to progress the project. Peta Cooper was allocated time in her paid role, Jenny could access a modest amount of funds while making physical resources available and the MCC championed the project through its business networks and practical support.
On the 13th of April 2006 the name was officially changed to Mildura Young Professionals Network Inc.
In 2009 our current trademarks of Connect Learn and Grow were established and while the original mission of delivering social events and professional development opportunities for like-minded individuals has always been consistent the way we deliver that goal is constantly developing.
Many individuals have contributed to the success of MYPN since its launch in 2006.
